As we discussed in our last post, there are myriad of digital signage companies and even more choices in features. So choosing what company to go with, and what tools, displays and systems to incorporate into your final choice, can be a daunting task. The answer will again, be much easier to decide when you know what it is you want to do. There is no other way to determine what you will need. The most important thing will always be to first figure out what you, the end-user, expect to accomplish with your digital signage deployment. Then you will be able to find the solution – and the digital signage company – that fits. It cannot be the other way around.
Here are a few additional things to consider when looking for a digital media signage company to handle your needs:
Have you thought about what kind of screens you are going to use to display your content on? Do you want to have a single screen with a single content stream? Have you visualized dividing it up into zones, with something different being displayed in each zone? Would you like to have recent sports scores scrolling across the bottom of the screen, with interesting pictures from your website along the left side, and then on the right you have live TV? Also, you have to decide whether you want a plasma screen or an LCD screen. How do you want to be able to control the screens? Do you want to be able to rotate the content for multiple screens remotely? Have you given some thought about what you will be able to do with your screens? What about the size of the screens, and where will each screen be mounted?
Prior to making decisions on equipment, systems, the digital signage company, and especially before you go out and BUY any new equipment, you need to know exactly what your budget is. After that, you must make sure that what you are looking to acquire fits within that budget. Your budget must include issues such as how many screens you are planning for your digital signage campaign. One static screen won’t cost too much, but if you want multiple screens, or digital screens at different locations, or even multiple screens at each of your locations, the price will go up. Ask if there will be any recurring costs as well; you don’t want to be blindsided down the road with a cost you were not aware would be coming. If your goal is to improve the brand, the upsell, the bottom line, or the overall image of your company, digital signage can help you, as long as you find the right solution. Otherwise you can end up spending lots of money and other resources, and not getting what you’re looking for. You will be able to spread your message anywhere with the help of the right digital signage.
You must not be afraid to ask questions. Ask again. And once again. If the signage company is not willing to take the time to answer your questions, no matter how many times you ask them, or how many different questions you ask, then perhaps you should look for another company. You need a company that is going to stand behind their product. They must be vested in ensuring that their product will deliver what they have committed it to delivering. Don’t accept an answer such as, “Oh, yeah, we plan on adding that feature later. You won’t need it yet, but when you’re ready for it- we will have it.” Keep in mind, however, that there really is no simple checklist that tells you exactly what to look for in a digital signage company. Each end-user is different; your needs are not exactly the same as those of another company. However, any legitimate company should have no problem offering you references, and then telling you to check those references out! Talk to other clients. Ask them what their experience was with the company you are considering.
We believe that the most important thing when selecting a digital signage company is having a provider whose product does what they say it does.
