Video Walls, The Digital Signage Segment With Rapid Growth

video wall growthAlthough just a small segment of the entire digital signage world, video walls seem to be growing at a rapid rate.  Rapid, as in, double digit growth.

According to Grand View Research, the global digital-signage market was estimated at just over $16 billion in 2016 and is forecast to reach an estimated $31.7 billion by 2025.

Maybe not such a small segment for long.

Video walls are not just your run of the mill single digital signage screen.  Video walls have shifted to become more scaleable and include more features.  They are meant to stand out, attract attention, and engage your audience, and they are doing this now more than ever.

Why The Rapid Growth?

There are quite a few contributing factors that could be boosting the use of video walls:

cost-1027760_1920Cost.  Costs have come down pretty substantially over the years.  With the demand for video walls reaching an all time high, manufacturers have concluded that they can make up in volume what they drop in prices.

Also, technology is ever changing, and with that, the products can be made more affordable based on the elements used, such as plasma vs. LED/LCD and advancement in Direct-View LED technology.

Budget.  Along the same lines as costs coming down, companies' budgets have gone up.  Food for thought:  AV departments used to be separate from IT departments within an organization.  This has changed as the definition for an AV system has changed.

AV systems now are intricate systems that include hardware and software and are often housed within the company's network and infrastructure. With that being said, IT/AV budget trends are increasing.  In fact, spiceworks.com mentions that close to half of companies (44%) expect budgets to increase in 2018.

This increase in budget may allow the room needed to include one of those awesome, and effective, digital signage video walls.

Software Is Better.  Software has improved just as the hardware it runs on has.  Multiple forms of media can be supported at the same time now: videos, images, scrolling news, interactivity, HTML5 assets, real-time data and text can all play simultaneously across one, or multiple, displays.

digital signage softwareMany software companies and digital signage integrators offer training for all employees or software/content users.  Some integrators even offer options to control the content development and deployment.

Software has become easier to use for the average person, not requiring IT or technology backgrounds.

Between the training offered, as well as the templated, drag and drop, and customizable options, controlling content on video walls can be done by "any Tom, Dick, and Harry" in the company that is given the authorization and training.

Your ROI (return on investment) can even be measured by digital signage software now.  Tools that can capture dwell time and crowd analytics, and in real time, can make all the difference in your marketing campaigns.

Who Can Take Advantage Of Video Walls?

With an expanding footprint in the digital signage world, video walls have been adopted by more than just large public venues such as airports, convention centers, and stadiums.  Technically, any company with a wall, can utilize a video wall.

Video walls can be arranged in virtually any size, and can even be put together in different shapes and sizes to create a work of art.

Content options are endless including, but not limited to,  interactivity, KPI (key performance indicators) data, videos, images, social sharing, and live feeds.

Those industries taking advantage of the benefits of video walls include: Retail, Corporations, Education, Control Rooms and Security, Small Businesses, Warehouses, Food Service, Transportation, Healthcare, and Entertainment.

And that's just to name a few.

Initial Considerations For A Video Wall

When looking into implementing a video wall system, there are a few things to take into consideration.

First, you will want to establish the end goal.  What is the purpose for your video wall?  Is it to capture audience engagement, increase foot traffic, interact with your customers, ultimately sell more through interactivity, or just to create a unique artistic expression of your company?

With the end goal always in mind, this will help with the other considerations as well.

Secondly, a budget will need to be set.  This will ultimately be the deciding factor into the space you can use, the hardware you choose, the software you choose, and the content you choose.

Once the budget is set, selecting an integrator or reseller that is competent in the world of video walls and digital signage, such as Coffman Media, is a must.  Years of experience, strong vendor relationships with clear and concise communication, and trustworthy installers will make a world of difference between a smooth implementation of your video wall vs. a chaotic one.

The integrator will then help you establish the best video wall options that will meet your end goals.  At this point there are some major considerations for the actual look of your video wall.

Bezel Size - each display has an outer edge, some thicker than others, and when displays are put together to create a large wall, the bezel size can determine the final "look" of the wall.  Smaller bezel sizes create a more smooth uniform wall, while larger bezel sizes look more like individual displays that are put together to create a large display.  (With Direct-View LED video walls, you can even create seamless video wall solutions.)

Physical Orientation - displays can be placed in portrait or landscape orientation.  Your wall can include all one way, or a mix of both creating a work of art. Content can be created to work on both orientations.

Placement/Arrangement - Where will your video wall be placed physically?  What is the environment like?  Is it indoor, outdoor, humid, cool, wet, etc.?  Will it need to be on and running 24 hours a day?  It is pertinent to know this information to ensure the hardware selected can tolerate the environment.

Content Strategy - You will want your content to be compelling, artistic, and always have your end goals as top consideration.

A market leading integrator will provide services above and beyond installation, helping you to capitalize on your own assets and make your video wall a successful investment.
