What Can I Do With HTML5 Digital Signage?

HTML_5 Digital Signage.jpgThere is a clear marriage taking place between today’s web technologies and digital signage, and there is a good reason for this.

As both technologies advance, so do the integrated capabilities between the two.

I want to take a moment and share some of the benefits of combining modern web technology with your digital signage to create more compelling content.

HTML5 and Video

Playing video on the web used to be a nightmare. It was a hit or miss. If you wanted to play video on the web, there was really only one option, and that was to use Flash. Flash suited us well for a long time and it was decent technology.

Flash-error HTML5 Digital Signage.jpgAs we all know now, Apple removed Flash support from it’s devices, in favor of a more “open” format. Obviously, this move limited video playback on devices that were operated using Apple’s platform.

This meant that video you wanted to deliver to your digital signage could only happen using Flash. This limited the platforms it would play on. Using HTML5 video now opens the door wide for delivering video content to multiple platforms. Since HTML5 plays across many platforms, this means that you can now play video on all types of mobile devices.

Dynamic Content Delivery with HTML5 Digital Signage

By combining these two technologies, you’ll be able to pull data from a database and display it on your digital signage. Here is one example of how this would benefit you. Let’s say that you own specialty store and you have all your products in a database.

You could install digital signage in your store to display your products to your customers. Imagine that when you update your database with new products, this automatically updates your signage content on the fly. Perhaps you have a sales team and you track their sales performance.

You could pull this data and display it on your signage in your sales office. Almost anything that you store in a database can be used as part of your content delivery.

Touch Interaction

Having your customers being able to interact with your content increases their experience and their engagement. Create content your customers can browse through.

Add products and product descriptions and allow them to touch the products they are interested in to display more content around that product. Add your staff directory and allow people to touch the person’s name to display contact information. Get creative with your content, make it interactive and fun, allow people to touch, and you will deliver a better experience for your users.

These are just a few examples of what is possible when you combine web technology with digital signage. We are in exciting times and the content you will be able to deliver will keep getting better.

With a little creativity and the right digital signage company by your side, you can deliver experiences that will captivate your audience.
